Bio

Filmmaker, retired military officer and former homeschool dad Colonel Douglas W. Dunklin has called the Atlanta area home since the age of ten.  Fulfilling his boyhood dream of being a soldier, in 1984 he was commissioned into the Army after graduating from North Georgia College in Dahlonega.

Late in his military career, and while still on active duty, Doug decided to jump into the world of film by writing, directing and producing The Peril to the Shire, a Lord of the Rings fan-film.  Undertaken as a fun-filled learning experience with over 50 middle and high-school aged students, this project made such an impact on the students that they pleaded with him to make another film.

Immediately after the premier of The Peril to the Shire in June 2007, Doug met again with his core group of committed students, and coached them as they developed and wrote an original screenplay from scratch, then mentored them as they filmed and produced The Sword.  This movie was selected as a semi-finalist for the 2009 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival, and was the opening film shown at the festival.

Since retiring from the military in 2012, Doug has started a second career in film and videography.  He taught a filmmaking course at Konos Academy in 2015 that morphed into producing a third film in 2017, A Message Through Time, which is currently in distribution.  His experiences in filming these three feature length student films using Georgia’s many state and local parks as primary locations has given him a great appreciation for the richness and variety of resources available within the Atlanta area.  Although his main focus is on student produced films, he also enjoys providing a range of video services to the public.

Additionally, Doug has travelled twice to Kabwe, Zambia (in 2017 and 2018) to provide equipment and training in videography to the media team at Operation Mobilization – Zambia.

Doug married Lynn, his college sweetheart and class Salutatorian in 1985, and they have lived in Sharpsburg, GA since 1995, where they’ve managed to avoid the zombie apocalypse in neighboring Senoia while raising two wonderful grown children.    In addition to his undergraduate degree in Political Science, Doug holds a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from the prestigious US Army War College.
